Visiting the Dominican Republic

Next week we will be making a trip into the Dominican Republic for a little reconnaissance.

As you may know, we have taken quite an interest in Haiti as an area for us to work in. The logistics of getting established in Haiti has proven to be difficult. First, there are often border issues getting in or out. Transportation within the country can also be daunting. Language barriers also play a role. So, to get into this work we are seeking the advice of those who have been working there as well as trying to make allies with some locals who have the language skills to help translate.

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

When we visited Haiti before we were directed into the country by another charity based in the neighboring country of the Dominican Republic with access to contacts within Haiti. They also do a lot of work with Haitian refugees within the Dominican Republic. Some goals for this trip include visiting their operations to learn what works and what doesn’t work, how to make the proper contacts, and to try to start determining the best place to start our own work on the island of Hispaniola.

We will be sure to keep everyone informed about the results of this trip and what we learn. Please keep us in your prayers as we continue to grow.
