A Celebration to Remember Liberation Unites Koreans for a Day

Barely six weeks after North and South Korea fought a gun battle at sea, the largest delegation of North Korean civilians in memory joined South Koreans here today to celebrate the anniversary of the end of World War II and the end of Japanese colonial rule. Chanting ”Korea is one” at a joint National Liberation Day art performance, 116 North Koreans waved blue and white ”unification” flags featuring a united Korean peninsula.
