Bush Team Is Campaigning to Muster Opposition in Africa to Mugabe’s Rule

The Bush administration said today that it was working to foster opposition to President Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe, calling his rule illegitimate and irrational. Using some of the administration’s strongest language yet to condemn the government in Zimbabwe, senior state department officials said Mr. Mugabe won re-election in March through fraud and coercion and has since helped spread starvation in southern Africa through misguided policies.
